Animal Behavior & Training consultant

Training Philosophy

As an Animal Behavior and Training Consultant and the owner of Positively Wild LLC, I offer expert training services for both domestic and exotic species in the surrounding areas of White Sands Missile Range, NM. With a Bachelor of Science in Biology, specializing in Animal Physiology and Behavior, and certification as a Dog Behavior Consultant through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), I am equipped with the knowledge and experience to address a wide range of behavioral needs.

My approach to animal behavior is rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and focuses on positive reinforcement. Whether working on basic obedience, husbandry tasks, medical behaviors, or behavior modification, my goal is to help animals and their caregivers build confidence through skill development. These science-backed methods not only teach new behaviors but also address undesirable behaviors in a compassionate and ethical manner.

I believe in a force-free, science-based, and compassionate approach to training, one that prioritizes the emotional well-being and comfort of the animals involved. My training techniques are designed to create positive, trusting relationships and encourage animals to thrive, both physically and mentally.

If you are looking for professional, ethical, and effective training methods for your animal, I would be honored to assist you with your training needs.

  • “I would highly recommend Positively Wild LLC, for animal training! I adopted my nine-month-old puppy just recently and she was really scared of new people and other animals. In a very short amount of time, Katie was able to provide me with the positive behavior supports needed to help Paisley through her fears. She has now successfully gone on hikes without barking, growling, or hiding. We have also mastered sit, stay (with duration), off, and other obedience skills. I am beyond impressed by Katie’s vast knowledge, willingness to answer all questions/concerns, and kindness when helping us out. Thankful for Positively Wild LLC!”

    — Kelsea T

  • “Katie is an amazing trainer! We have a 1 year old adopted Boxer and her guidance has really improved his success at basic behaviors and triggers. She is incredibly patient and reassuring. Her recommendations for adjustments through training have really made improvements with our training. I also love that I can reach out through the week for a little advice when having struggles. I highly recommend Katie! I’ve done my trainings virtually which were very convenient and just as effective!”

    — Maria P

  • “Yes, that is our Jake!! He was a rescue from Animal Services about 6 weeks ago, and BOY, was he a wild one. I am in my 60's and hubby in his 70's so this was like having a 2 year old grandchild dropped off permanently. His energy and intelligence level was just totally wearing us down. We think he is about 6 months old. We lost our 12 year old lab in August, and said we would NEVER get a puppy. Well, here we are! THANK GOD for Katie coming to the rescue to train all of us. We were doing so many things wrong, and making the situation worse . Each week Katie would have us work on different behavior issues that were frustrating us. Then the next week, different issues, and then yesterday we were taught on and off leash lessons. Katie makes it look so easy. Jake loves her, and cries when she leaves him. We know he is going to be a good boy, and he just wants to please us. He will definitely keep us young as he needs constant exercise. Honestly, I think I might have just given up if it hadn't been for Katie's patience and knowledge. Thank you Katie.”

    —Lenna O.

  • Katie is absolutely wonderful. She made our beginning months as first time dog owners so much easier. She is so patient and understands our puppy's needs so well. We are beyond grateful we chose Positively Wild. Thank You so much Katie!

    —Jessica S

  • “Katie is amazing!!! She is so patient. We got our 6 week old Rottie trained with basic commands by the time he was 10 weeks! Nipping was a huge concern for us considering we have kids. With time and consistency we were able to get it under control!”

    — Madi Burns

  • “Working with Katie has been absolutely amazing! We have a 10 week old German Shepherd, we got him at 6 weeks and started with Katie’s training right away. We had him sitting and laying down in no time using her training! He use to jump up on the cabinets, and run around like crazy while getting his food ready. Now he sits and waits patiently until we are ready to give it to him! She is always willing to answer any questions we have, she is so patient and willing to do anything to help! With this being our first puppy Katie has made it so easy and fun training him!”

    — Nicole Abe

  • “It was a lot of fun to learn with my dogs. Not only did we get to work on their behaviors and tricks but I had the opportunity to learn how to be a better owner. Hands down my favorite part was learning how to, and how not to teach my dog new behaviors. Expanding on what my dog and I already knew was lots of fun. If you want to learn how to really get the best out of your animal Positively wild is the way to go.”

    —Mike Vandervate

  • “It has been a truly educational, enjoyable, and rewarding experience to have had Katie come into our home and work with our dog Takoda and us on improving Takoda’s behavior and our training methods . Takota has responded to her in amazing ways and now both him and I are enjoying our time together as we continue training and learning various techniques in correcting any new behaviors that might arise. Thank you Katie for all that you have done and we look forward to doing some “field trip” type training in the future.”

    —Dee L

  • "Katie came over to work with my pack. I have four dogs, all adopted, 3 in the last year. They are all throwaways. They were jumping on anybody that came in the door. Katie went one on one with them and had them all sitting on command when she left. I have her scheduled for another session so we can work on all of them together. Katie is very patient and calm when working with the animals and they respond to her. I would recommend her to anybody that is having issues with their animals or for basic training. You cannot go wrong hiring her. She is wonderful."

    —Dottie Y.

  • "Katie came over to teach a few things to my German Shepherd, Sarge. After only a few minutes with Katie he was sitting and laying down on command. He even added a relaxed pose when he laid down to show he really wanted his training treat. He gets too hyper and excited when it comes to his feeding times so I use the knowledge Katie gave me to have him "sit", "down", and "relax" before his food bowl is placed in front of him. Katie is wonderful with all animals, I'd recommend her services to everyone!"

    —Rachel A.

  • "Katie helped my 9 year old daughter learn some training basics for her two guinea pigs, starting with understanding what the end goal of training would be and building a training pyramid on how they were going to get there. She explained every step or instruction and the reason behind them which was very helpful. We have continued to put Katie's guidance to practice and it shows. Guinea pigs are inherently skiddish animals and our two are very sociable, will come right up to us and let us pet them. Katie is a very patient, kind, professional and knowledgeable animal behaviorist. I will continue to go to her for all our future animal training needs...next up, a puppy!"

    —Stephanie V.

  • "Katie is a marvelous human being and amazing with animals. I've seen her train a variety of different animals from our past experience working together in Alaska, from foxes to deer to lynx! She is one of the huge reasons I know anything about training animals today. Not only is she calm, patient and caring, but she will go above and beyond for you and your animal in training. You don't even need to think about it, just hire her."

    —Molly H.

  • “Higo is a perfect dog. Then Katie showed us how Higo can also be a confidant dog. Katie showed us how to communicate with Higo with kindness, respect and intellect. Katie’s ability to see behaviors in both dogs and humans to instill confidence in both. We are hoping to start another session, maybe a group session, again soon.”
